When you need comprehensive slab leak repair, you may not know it. That’s one of the most pernicious aspects to slab leaks.  You could have a raging problem, something that has to be dealt with immediately, and you may not necessarily be aware of it as it’s happening. Whenever possible, we use these blogs to let customers know about potential slab leak problems they might have. Then, when they recognize those signs (or even something that just looks kind of like those signs) they can call in USA Restoration as soon as possible. In this blog, we’ll explain some signs that you may need slab leak repair, as well as how our company can help.

Slab Leak Repair: Signs to Keep in Mind

In the spring and summer of southern California, it can be very beautiful. This is the time of year when it’s warm outside and getting warmer all of the time. Sure, sometimes it may rain, but as of this writing, the season has been relatively mild. When lots of water accumulates on your slab, that could lead to the kind of leaks that need fixing. Often, a sign of that is when you have to deal with downpours that are sudden and sustained.

If you’ve lived in SoCal for any length of time, you know that when it rains, it really rains. Sometimes, we only get a few drops, but when the rain comes down, it truly does come down. That’s when you might have some kind of slab water accumulation that could eventually lead to leaks. We always recommend that if you think you have a problem, it’s worth calling USA Restoration to come check it out. The worst thing that can happen is we’ll look at your location, give it a thorough examination, and then tell you that there really isn’t a problem. However, we can also tell you if there’s a significant problem, and how we can fix it as soon as possible.

Windows and Gutters

There really isn’t all that much you can do to keep slab leaks from occurring. You can’t stop it from raining; you can’t change the weather, and so forth. However, there are little steps that may be able to lessen the accumulation of water on your slab. By that same token, they can help your home to look better and be more comfortable. To be clear, any time that we mention “home” in one of these blogs, we typically also mean “commercial building” as well. At USA Restoration, we have commercial and residential repair for slab leak services available.

Check you gutters. Even in southern California, you want your gutters to look as nice as possible. If they’re broken or damaged, that could lead to water accumulation in places where you don’t want water accumulation. By that same token, if your gutters are damaged, it can make the exterior of your home look that much worse. Obviously, gutters aren’t the kind of thing that you have to check every day first thing when you wake up in the morning. But, should there become kind of torrential downpour or rain that seemingly lasts for days and days, you may want to step outside for a moment and just check to make sure that your gutters are in as good of shape as possible.

In many of our blogs, you may not have noticed that we tend to go over the signs you may need help with a burst pipe. We list the signs of such a problem, and one of them is often “pools of water.” Seeing leaks or water pooling in areas that don’t have any leaks or spills can be a clear sign that there’s something wrong with your pipes or you’re suffering from some other kind of water damage. However, there is one sign that you want to check for which could also cause problems for your slab: leaky windows.

If your windows are leaking, it can cause potential problems for your slab. You may want to check your windows when you have a moment. Obviously, you want to make sure that they’re closed and cinched tight when they’re not open, but you want to make sure that they aren’t leaking or otherwise compromised, too. As with the gutters, this may be the kind of thing you want to do after a particularly nasty or sustained rainy spell. Should you ever have some kind of concern that there’s a problem with your slab, pipes or something else that’s causing water damage, contact USA Restoration quickly.

Your Slab

The slab is meant to be strong. It’s built to not be compromised. However, as with essentially everything else with homes, over time, it wears down. Some places have slabs that are stacked concrete blocks, while others are made from poured concrete. Depending on when your home was constructed, you may even have a water barrier shielding your slab. This is the kind of thing that can work for a very long period of time, but it can also be penetrated, too.

Even without earthquakes, buildings shift over time. The ground changes, things shift – sure, it may be imperceptible to you as you’re living your day to day life, but homes are shifting and settling all of the time. Usually, this isn’t a very big deal. After all, every home is expected to do this. However, sometimes, it can affect your slab. Sometimes, the shifting can make the structure of the slab just a little bit weaker. It doesn’t have to crack it wide open or anything like that. However, over time, it just makes gives it a little bit of an opening.

As we’re discussing water in the context of slab leaks, the smallest of openings is all that water needs. Water can get in practically anywhere. As our work with mold and remediating water damage shows, if there’s a way for water to get in somewhere, it will. This is what can happen over time to even the most impregnable slab. Slight problems can eventually become big ones. That’s why, when you even begin to suspect that you have a problem, it’s best to call in the pros from USA Restoration

Water Damage Contractors and More

Those are just some of the physical ways that a slab leak might manifest itself. You may see it in other ways as well. For example, one clear sign customers tell us about all of the time is that they step into their shower, turn on the water and… get very little water pressure. Sure, water pressure can fluctuate from time to time, but you know when you have significant decrease. When there’s something wrong with your slab, that can dramatically cut down on your water pressure. Should this kind of thing happen to you, you want to contact USA Restoration as quickly as you can.

However, that decrease in water pressure can coincide with an increase you don’t want to see: in your water bills. When there’s some kind of leak or crack in your pipes, you may keep getting water. A leak or crack doesn’t always necessarily mean that you won’t get any water whatsoever. However, it can mean that to get the same amount of water that you’re used to; you have to pay so much more. That’s because the water drips out of the crack or leak, causing you to have to pay so much more.

When you contact us at USA Restoration, we can be there at any time, day or night. Should you get up in the middle of the night or right before work and suspect that you have a water damage problem, don’t hesitate to contact us. We can be there as quickly as possible to find and fix your problem. Learn more by calling us at (800) 805-0541.
